Navigating the Changing Landscape of Sustainability
Born into a family of academics and scholars, Sargam Saraf realized at an early age she had big shoes to fill—thus, she decided to help save the planet. Saraf found the diverse and versatile nature of the environmental sciences the most appealing. Through her undergraduate degree, she was able to learn about environmental policies, atmospheric and oceanic sciences, green accounting and more. During a research project, Saraf realized what was most important to her: doing impactful work in a collaborative environment.

Alum Helps Build the Business Case for Sustainability
Prior to his time at Columbia University, Sustainability Management alumnus Watson Millison worked in the third-party sustainability certification world, where he certified B Corporations at B Lab and coordinated the certification process at Green Seal. Watson was attracted to the program's quantitative and management coursework, as well as the opportunity to work on real-world projects with the goals of advancing professionally and breaking into the corporate sustainability world. He now utilises his coursework as a Senior Planning Analyst of Research and Development at Con Edison.

Applying Sustainability Management Skills and Tools on a Daily Basis
Minelly De Coo (’18) spent eight years in the engineering consulting industry and used her SUMA degree to transition to the public sector. Today she serves as a senior policy advisor for the NYC Mayor's Office of Recovery & Resiliency where she leads program delivery efforts for key initiatives within the citywide resiliency portfolio.

Receiving Fulbright Grant to Research Arctic Ocean Protection
David Prieto (’15) has been awarded a Fulbright-National Science Foundation Arctic Research Grant. While based in Iceland for the grant, Prieto will research the benefits of establishing an marine protected area (MPA) over the Central Arctic Ocean.
